Nashville Wedding Photography | Briel and Rob | Belle Meade Plantation Wedding | Assisting Erin Lee of The Collection

This might have been one of my favorite weddings ever.  First, the Belle Meade Plantation is a fantastic venue for a wedding.  Second, Briel and Rob were some of the best dancers I’ve ever seen in person.  My wife and I have taken ballroom lessons for a few years now, but we’ll have to work many more to get even close to as good as these two were.  I was once again assisting Erin Lee of The Collection on this one.  Check out her preview images here and her full blog post here.  A huge thanks to Erin for letting me tag along and shoot quite a bit on this one.

Looks awesome, Dan!

Nashville Wedding Photography | Schermerhorn Symphony Center | Erin and Abraham | for Erin Lee of The Collection

Several times this year I’ve had the opportunity to assist Erin Lee of The Collection.  I would highly recommend all beginning wedding photographers to take every opportunity you can to be around top notch professionals.  Even if the gig is assisting, which is mostly lugging the gear and doing card backups, it’s a great opportunity to see professionals in their element and learn how to shoot a wedding.  I would also suggest that you take a camera with you.  There is going to be a lot of down time over the span of an 8-10 hour wedding day and you’ll have a chance to work on your craft.  For this wedding I was glad that I had my camera as I was able to go up in the balcony and photograph the wedding from above.  It’s a special challenge to find photos from a less than optimum angle and it makes you really work to find a photo that works.  You can see some of Erin’s photos in her Facebook preview as well as on Rock the Aisle, which published this wedding earlier this year.

Excellent insight Dan! I envy you 2nd shooters for having the opportunity to take some risks and find different vantage points vs just getting the “safe shot”

Daley and Weston – Crossville, TN Farm Wedding – Second Shooting for Justin Wright Photo

This is my last re-blog of my favorite weddings of the year.  I’ll be putting up new stuff soon!

I had the pleasure of second shooting Daley and Weston’s wedding on his grandparents farm in Crossville, TN for Justin Wright.  I was really glad I got to tag along on this wedding for many reasons – for one, I know the bride but hadn’t seen her in years. I always love working with Justin – he’s an amazing photographer.  The wedding planner was my friend Jennifer Hamilton of Mr. & Mrs. Weddings and Events, who did a fabulous job. The location was beautiful, and the weather was perfect.  When I was editing my photos I was really liking my black and white edits so I felt like an all black and white blog post was in order.  If you’d like to see some amazing color photos (and black and whites) check out Justin’s blog posts here and here. So, without further ado, on to the photos!

Second shooting often means spending a lot of time with the groom, and this was no exception. It helps when the groom chills for a bit with his harmonica.

Melanie and Brandan – Nashville Wedding – Ellington Agricultural Center Iris Garden

I’m continuing to re-blog a few of my favorite weddings from the past year here.  Enjoy!

Last week I had the pleasure of photographing Melanie and Brandan’s intimate wedding here in Nashville, TN at the Ellington Agricultural Center’s Iris Garden.  The wedding was a family only affair with no reception or pomp, just a lot of love, joy, and laughter.  It was possibly one of my favorite weddings to shoot because there weren’t a lot of distractions. It was a really overcast day and we were afraid it would pour rain on our heads the whole time, but instead the clouds just turned the sky into a giant soft box and I had some amazing light to work with.  It’s true what they say, bad weather = great pictures.  I had a blast with Melanie and Brandan and wish them all the best in their life together.  Here are a few of my favorites.

I love the Iris Garden at the Ellington Agricultural Center.  It’s beautiful.

How much is it to get married at Ellington?

Sherri LaFever - August 19, 2014 - 6:44 pm

It only cost $100 to get married in the Iris Garden at Ellington–of course they’ll take more if you wish to donate more : )

Do you know if there is also a building available on site for the reception? and if so, what all is included and how much does it cost?

Thanks for your assistance!

I don’t recall ever seeing a building there that would have an event space to use for an indoor reception. You could probably do an outdoor one at the Iris Garden or on the lawn by the house up the hill, but I have no idea how to go about scheduling something like that.

Sara and Taylor – Franklin, TN Wedding at the Vanderbilt Legends Club – with Tausha Ann Photo

I’m re-posting some of my favorite weddings from the past year on my new website.  I’ll be starting with my first wedding of the year.

Back in January I had the opportunity to second shoot for Tausha at Tausha Ann Photography for a wedding in Franklin, TN at the Vanderbilt Legends Club. We got lucky that it’s been such a mild winter here so were able to get outside on the golf course a bit for the first look and some photos of Sara and Taylor. I love second shooting sometime because I get to do and try some different things that I wouldn’t if I were the primary photographer. You should check out Tausha’s work on her website and blog (you can see her blog post for this wedding here). Here are a few of my favorites that I took:
